This route is one of my favorites. The first 1/2 of the ride brings you through great little towns and beautiful scenery south of Lake Tahoe. Along with the sights, the smell of the fresh trees is really soothing. The 2nd 1/2 of this ride brings you through Silver Lake and Carson Pass. If traveling in the summer this route doesn't have much traffic.
This road brings you through higher elevations, so don't go in the winter because of heavy snow, and make sure your bike is healthy because the elevation really kills the power. If you have time you can circumvent Stockton and take Jack Tone Road. It is about 30 miles of perfectly straight back-roads full of farms and fields.
