Buell Motorcycles was the brainchild of Erik Buell and founded in 1983. Buell was a Harley-Davidson engineer turned road racer and began selling the machines he built for the track. In 1993 H-D bought a 49% stake in Buell, later taking over the whole company in 2003. But then in 2009 the Buell line was discontinued by Harley-Davidson after production of more than 136,000 motorcycles.
A brief return for Buell was marketed as Erik Buell Racing (EBR) in 2009.
