Boeing launched a design competition last year to solicit designs for a next-generation vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. With $2 million in prize money up for grabs the competition has attracted some exciting ideas from designers around the world.

The first round of the competition involved initial proposals. While the intent is to redefine personal flight, most of the winners look more like they've redefined motorcycles.

In 2019 the competition wraps up, culminating in a fly-off in October.
