One of the unique features of Beta motorcycles is their alloy frame. Since 1991 all trials bikes made by Beta have used a Verlicchi frame made of aluminum alloy. On a steel frame it is possible to mount the pegs directly to the frame. An alloy frame requires the mounting point to be spread over a larger area. By attaching a steel bracket to the frame the designers have provided a sturdy mounting point that can bend without causing damage to the alloy frame. |

Because these brackets protrude from the
motorcycle's frame it is not unusual for them to get damaged.
Bending the brackets back into shape didn't help. Heating the steel weakens it and in a matter of minutes they were right back where we started. I don't even remember hitting anything! ReinforcementsThe later versions of the Techno added a reinforcing gusset to the peg bracket. If you purchase replacement brackets they should include this triangular brace. I replaced the brackets on my Techno with this newer style, but also opted to beef up the weld. The factory weld is only on one side of the gusset. Alternatively, it's a simple matter to add this feature to the older style brackets. If you have access to a welder and some steel scrap the following photo can be used as a guide for fabricating your own. The arrow shows the location of the reinforcement.
In the photo we have mounted the bracket upside-down in a vice. It's the LH foot peg if you care to keep score. Before welding on the bracket it's best to unbolt the peg and remove the spring to avoid damaging it from the heat of the welder. Avoid getting any material on the perimeter of the bracket or it will not fit in the frame's recess. Grind away any weld that gets on this area.
