Type of Ride: Street
Where: Lindsborg KS USA
Size/Distance: about 100 miles
Taking highway K4 from Topeka, Kansas west is a slow paced ride through mildly winding back roads of Kansas farm country and small towns. Take this route to the junction with I-135, then within about three miles of good gravel roads you will come to Coronado Heights.
This is a rocky hill of about 200 feet in height amid the flatness of the surrounding area where, it is said, the Spanish conquistador Coronado, in his search for a rumored mountain of gold, killed his Indian guide when he realized he was being led on a wild goose chase.
The Public Works Department, in an effort to employ people toward the end of the Great Depression in the early 1940's, built a nice picnic area at the top of this hill complete with concrete tables, restroom facilities and a "castle" lookout tower. This is an AWESOME place to watch a sunset or sunrise!
