We started this motorcycling directory back in 1998 and have stopped updating this section when our live directory went live in 2001. We keep this around just for old times sake.
The variety of terrain and open spaces means there are some great rides
to be found in Oklahoma. Here are some backroads and twisties in and around
the Sooner State. Last updated September 2000.

| Coyote Trail | Mannford
17 mi. |
Beginning outside of Tulsa on West 41st Street the "Trail" snakes along
almost to Mannford. The west end crosses OK-51 and ends at Keystone Lake. To find it follow 41st west through Prattville. To join it on the west end look for the Round Mountain historical marker just east of Mannford on OK-51. Topo Map Road Map |

| OK-97 | Sand Springs
15 mi. |
The stretch of modern-day 97 that runs north from Sand Springs to the Zink Ranch (site
of the 1994 ISDE) is a great ride. All curves are well marked and the only tight spots are
a couple of one-lane bridges on the north end. Start a tour of the Osage from here and you
can meander just about any direction and find fun roads. One popular turnout is at Apache St. It makes a great rest stop because there is a store on the corner, and a detour west on Apache will take you to Pogue Airport and Shell Creek Lake. Topo Map Road Map |

| OK-80 | Ft. Gibson/Hulbert
20 mi. |
Well worth the detour, a really great run. Just past the
Ft. Gibson dam is a great overlook with plenty of room to pull over. Watch for flooding
closer to Hulbert. Topo Map Road Map |

| OK-11 | Skiatook/ Pawhuska 45 mi. |
Great drive through the rolling hills of the Osage. The
Tall Grass Prairie just north of Pawhuska is a great final destination. Frank Phillips'
hunting lodge/airplane hangar was named Woolaroc and is well worth a detour, watch for
OK-123 just south of Barnsdall. Topo Map Road Map |

| Keatonville Road | Claremore
6 mi. |
Keatonville Road runs along the Verdigris River between
OK-20 and US-266. Watch for the Keatonville Store about 5 miles west of Claremore or join
it just west of the Port of Catoosa. Topo Map Road Map |

||
| OK-56 | Okmulgee
15 mi. |
Highway 56 west of Okmulgee is a great drive. The spillway on Okmulgee Lake is a great place for a rest stop. Or pull into Okmulgee State Park and enjoy the drive to Dripping Springs. |
|
|
||
| Red Bud Valley Road | Catoosa
5 mi. |
Go north on 161st E. Ave. past Pine. Watch for nasty RR crossing, after that it's a fun drive. Take a break (or a hike) at the Red Bud Valley nature preserve. |
|
|
||
| OK-20 | Salina/ Spavinaw 12 mi. |
These roads are almost legendary in this area. Watch for the one decreasing radius curve that's almost a full 180. It's marked with a large off center arrow. If you can avoid the boring ride on US-412 take this alternate route to Arkansas or Missouri. A great drive. |
|
|
||
| OK-127 | Jay/Zena
10 mi. |
A roller coaster ride through rocky hills near Grand Lake. Watch out for the two one-lane bridges. |
|
|
||
| US-62 | Tahlequah
25 mi. |
The run to Westville from just east of Tahlequah is a nice drive. Depending on your destination try US-59 south to Stillwell or continue east on 62 into Fayetteville. |

| OK-1 | Talihina
50 mi. |
Scenic twisties abound in the Ouchita. The legendary
Talimena Drive runs along the top of these mountains, the highest range between the
Rockies and the Appalachians. The scenic Ouachita National Forest provides the backdrop
for the entire run to Mena, Arkansas. Map |

| OK-77S |
Ardmore/Lake Murray
20 mi. |
Just south of Ardmore state highway 77S cuts
off from US-77 and circles Lake Murray before continuing south through the
Hickory Creek area. This route can be an excellent diversion from I-35 or
a destination on it's own.
To make the loop around the lake take 77S south out of downtown Ardmore. After the junction with US-70 you will continue around the lake (do not take either of the 77S turnoffs that you will pass). If in doubt- turn left. Eventually you will rendezvous with US-70 again and finish the loop. |

Lawton
25 mi. |
State highway 49 cuts through the Wichita
Mountains Wildlife Refuge between I-44 and OK-54. The ride is nothing
challenging, only a few twisties, but the scenery makes up for it.
Be sure to take the turnout that goes to the peak of Mt. Scott. It's only a
measly 2,464 feet but that's pretty high by Okie standards.
This is a great destination offering lots of hiking trails, rock climbing and camping on the WPA era lakes. A visitor's center near the eastern end of the refuge offers more information. |

| K177/K4 | Topeka, KS
120 mi. |
This is a surprising road route for Kansas. Great scenes, good curves
& hills, little traffic, and a good road surface. K-177 north from Cassoday, KS to K-4; East on K-4 to K-99, north to Alma. Backtrack on K-99 to K-4 again and then east through Eskridge & Dover to Topeka. |
